“am I anti-Semitic”: a short thread of anti-semitic things to say and do without even knowing it

• calling someone a “nazi” when you actually just mean they’re a racist or bigot and aren’t actually affiliated with the nazi party at all, watering down another chapter of the two thousand year history of anti-semitism into another harsh buzzword without meaning

• equating the political state of Israel with those of Israel descent or Jews who have lived in that area for generations (potentially for up to 2,000 years)

• calling Jews in Israel “colonizers”, again ignoring the fact Jews have lived there for t w o t h o u s a n d y e a r s

• confusing Jews who want to be able to go back to and live in their homeland, you know, the place that was invaded by the Romans who kicked out all the Jews, with extreme Zionists who want to yeet everyone else out

• thinking all Jews hate and/or want to yeet Palestine and totally support the State of Israel’s government 100%

• thinking all Jews are white and/or all Jews in Europe are Ashkenazi

• similarly, thinking all Jews living in Israel are all white Europeans who immigrated there during the 1800-1900s (when we’ve already established Asian and black Jews have resided in Israel for t w o t h o u s a n d y e a r s

• thinking people who sing and enjoy the Hatikvah support the State of Israel when really it’s a pretty song that sums up the fact we’d like to go home as we were booted out (and this doesn’t necessarily mean by force or not sharing it)
