It’s always so illuminating when I bring up neocolonial and imperialist agendas being ever present, and right on cue, folks dismiss it all out of “pragmatism.” The casual aside for “well we just gotta do this first” is disgusting.
“Well when we get to this point, we can solve the race problem” or “well look how far things have come in the last 100 years.” It is damn near gaslighting if not completely that when you tell oppressed folks to entrust a system that is incapable of facilitating our liberation.
I just need to be better at not wasting my time on “convos” about the merits of a better world if you refuse to concede that what we have has never worked. When someone dismisses Pan-Africanism, that’s all you need to see where folks are.
There’s only so many ways you can explain to folks why Black liberation is necessary for you to just realize so many are fundamentally against it. I’ve just been thinking about a recent exchange for too long and needed to share this.
A great thread on the convo industrial complex that’s related to the thoughts above. https://twitter.com/degendering/status/1264913473571610624
