I know I saw safety info online recently about the colour of ice, but can't locate it now. I need to say, it was helpful today.
While walking on the Seine in #Winnipeg my 11 yo headed toward grey ice, I stopped her, but my 14 yo was nearby and w/in secs went through. 1/

The water was only waist/chest deep on him, so he wasn't fully submerged, but getting out was still difficult, as the ice kept breaking. Once he calmed a bit, he was able to climb out and thankfully we weren't too far from our car, where we could get him warm and get home. 2/
Another family was nearby and they said they also had a family member go through the week before. I'm not sure why the river isn't frozen there, but it is obviously hazardous.
Please be aware and be cautious. 3/

Both my kids are safe and fine. I'm incredibly grateful. My teenager even gave me a giant hug tonight.
Please be ice safe.
