Really feeling this one https://twitter.com/FTP_Chicago/status/1343349756886659074
Last night, we were speaking about the mass line and how it can seem easy to walk into communities and apply it. But before we do this, we must cultivate respect. That means recognizing we have preconceived notions about who the masses are and how they should act.
As a result of anti-blackness and colonialism, we all have preconceived notions about who a black person is, who a queer person is, who a sex worker is, how a user is supposed to act.
So the mass line is not just a formulaic method. In order to properly engage the masses, we must first truly accept that anyone has the ability to contribute to revolutionary struggle.
Principled organizations must always be attuned to the fact that even comrades with the best intentions hold prejudices. It is our job to undo them so we can hear the masses when they speak to us.
The application of the mass line requires a commitment to unlearning 400 years of anti-blackness and we must continue to cultivate that in every revolutionary or we will fail.
