I've been wondering why covid-19 deaths are so high in Quebec, and I came across an interesting statistic that might explain it. 1/
73% of the Quebecers who have died from covid-19 are 80 years or older; another 18.3% were in ther 70s. Less than 8% were younger than 70. https://www.quebec.ca/sante/problemes-de-sante/a-z/coronavirus-2019/situation-coronavirus-quebec/#c63031
I doubt that Quebec elders are more vulnerable than elders elsewhere. But what *is* different about Quebec elders is that they're much more likely than other Canadians to be in a residences. 3/
18.4% of Quebecers aged 75 or older are in a residence. In the ROC, that percentage is 6.1%.

So the conjecture is that since Quebec elders are 3 times more likely to be living in a residence, and since residences are especially vulnerable to outbreaks, more Quebec elders are dying from covid-19 than elsewhere in Canada. 5/5
