but antichoice violence is just another category of white domestic terrorism that we've all agreed as a society to mark with an asterisk. doesn't really count.
that guy's thread up there about how America Doesn't Do Bombings Anymore mentions the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bombing. Fun fact now largely written out of popular consciousness of that event: it was an anti-abortion bombing. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4600480
The bomber, Eric Robert Rudolph, also bombed 2 clinics in Atlanta and in Birmingham and an Atlanta lesbian bar. People died. People were maimed. They've been memory-holed, more or less.
It's just *interesting* to me that Rudolph's big flashy bombing isn't legible in collective memory as an anti-abortion attack, but his direct, plain-faced hate bombings just... don't exist in collective memory at all.
God bless the U.S.A., where we tortuously gerrymander the definition of terrorism to overlook the violence done by certain types of people... and to overlook the terror suffered by certain (other[ed]) types of people.
