let’s talk ab this again.. i’m begging! ppl to stop defending characters they like *just* for peace of mind,,, not acknowledging that some things they do are /problematic/ at any capacity can lead to normalization irl bc fiction *objectively* has an effect on reality. & beside explicitly bad actions (ie imperialism, noncon kissing, arson), please let’s not! ignore the more mundane/somewhat nonstigmatized issues like zuko’s jealousy, m@i’s dismissiveness, b3 a@ng’s possessiveness, azula manipulating ty lee, ETC (2/7)
for some of them, what makes them act the way they do isn’t _inherently_ their faults (zuko, azula, jet, etc). sometimes not even really their fault at all ? (3/7)
they’re literally children so they should be & are allowed lenience BUT the actions/traits themselves should be addressed as inappropriate/unhealthy ??? it’s ok to stan them and still recognize that they aren’t always the best ppl !!!!! (4/7)
ALSO it shouldn’t have to be said but children and adults should NOT be held to the same standard ???? (5/7)
zuko is one of my favorite characters ever but i’m not going to pretend that, outside of what’s /explicitly/ addressed in the show, he’s incapable of shitty behavior? granted his abandonment/daddy issues came into play w his jealousy. that doesn’t mean jealousy itself is ok (6/7)
anyway, liking problematic characters isn’t necessarily bad, so willful ignorance to make urself feel better is NOT the way to go. u don’t even have to justify (sometimes u can’t really) their actions but *please* call them out for doing fucked up things ??? (7/7)
