A few reflections in a 🧵...The emergency use authorization of the COVID 19 vaccine has prompted dialogue about its equitable distribution among healthcare workers. No doubt, these past few months have been incredibly hard and unfathomable. https://twitter.com/omarjimenez/status/1342132667471581187
The scrutiny and outcries regarding the way in which vaccine distribution has taken place thus far is warranted. But I am also left with this feeling that I cannot shake.
For some, this may be the first time they’ve faced the harsh reality of inequitable distribution of goods and resources. And it is absolutely demoralizing and contributes to feelings of hopefulness.
Now imagine experiencing this level of disenfranchisement and inequity ALL THE TIME in all facets of life. You live in a neighborhood where divestment is the name of the game. Schools your kids go to are inadequately funded compared to kids who live in affluent neighborhoods.
There are no grocery stores nearby and environmental hazards are commonplace. At work, no one sees you let alone considers you “essential”. You are looked over, mistreated, abused, and preyed upon because of what you look like.
And the health outcomes of your community are consistently worse across multiple diagnoses.

My wish is that we never forget what this moment feels like. And we all use this same level of ferocity not just for our self-interests but for those who are disregarded, and forgotten.
