Because people consume media they think they understand how it works, in a way I wouldn't assume to know how my car or insurance works. You can dislike @Shawn_Jeffords' story for Canadian Press, or not, but the fact that multiple outlets carried it only means they belong to CP...
News orgs belong to CP to augment their own coverage. Stories come with headlines the orgs are free to use or change. CP does solid journalism, not PR. Orgs can pick up the story or not. Search "Canadian Press" to see all the outlets that used CP stories you didn't object to.
The fact that this story got widely picked up with mostly unchanged headlines likely says more about the time of year - skeleton staff of reporters, not much news, people reading end-of-year pieces - than anything else.
If anybody is trying say this shows something about MSM or uses it to sell you a subscription, know that all news orgs in that screencap have exposed more about the Ford govt, and others, than any outlet with no bureaus or full-time coverage of government & agencies
That's not a slap on indie media. The more the merrier, I say, listen to all the voices. But there are enough politicians undermining faith in media for their own ends without others joining in. When we get something wrong, please, blast away. But stick to the facts.
