I've always feared losing my parents & grandparents but for whatever reason, I never considered losing my friends until it happened. These aren't recent losses, I just want to acknowledge them as I've been thinking about them often. Scotty known as Super Scott by his friends.
He ran the most horsepower of any of us in our offroad club. I spent many sleepless nights in his shop helping him build that 1979 Chevy truck powered by a 468ci big block Chevy. My closest friend, I owe most of what I know about vehicles to him.
Ed is the most recent loss. He's the father of one of my close friends and a wildman behind the wheel. His son's pieced his rig back together with donated parts so he could enjoy one more romp through the mud before ultimately losing his fight with cancer.
Pat was a quiet guy who never asked for anything but was the first to offer his services if needed. A true class act. He made a positive impression on my kids as well. I'll never forget him for that.
Dave, known by Ranger Dave by fellow mud heads, loved everything Ford. He built this beautiful 460 big block Ford powered Ford Ranger himself. Not one bolt is unaccounted for or mistorqued. I respect a man who takes pride in his work and Dave was the epitome of that.
These guys all had a hand in forming the man I am by being positive influences during a critical juncture in my life.
