The type of knowledge one finds in the 3rd house is cultivated through repetition. It signifies knowledge which deepens through repeated action, until it becomes instinctual and second nature, much like your mother tongue.
The 3rd house, is known as θεά, or the place of Goddess. This house is the joy of Luna. Like the Moon, the third house is highly changeable, and represents the fluctuations of our local environment, early primary education, as well as the familiar people to you like siblings.
It is a place of instinctual knowledge, like one’s neighborhood. The familiarity of the 3H comes only through repeated use and immersion. Much like driving a car (short distance travel being another 3H signification), 3H skills are automatic and passive.
The ☽ as well as the 3H can represent our early childhood experiences and conditioning that comes from influences closest to us. It is the supple sponge that learns via “soaking.”
Like the Moon’s fast cycles, with every visitation, we deepen our knowledge by diving back to the basics. Additionally, since the Moon represents the physical body, so does our knowledge become an extension of ourselves.
The 3H is about ritual, whereas the 9H, the joy of Sol, is about ceremony. The two are very similar, but the word ritual implies this notion of repetition, and the mastery that can be cultivated by doing something over and over again.
So if you want to deepen your studies, consider rereading basic texts. This is how you achieve true fluency. After all, “fluency” comes from the Latin “fluere” which means to flow.
Thoth, the Egyptian god of writing and the Moon is a perfect symbol of this. Think of the fluid movement of eyes reading words on a page. Once we respect the fundamentals enough to constantly nurture them, only then can we achieve true fluency.
It still shocks me how I can read a book 20x’s and still find new nuggets of wisdom/insight about said topic. Like the signs, houses, and planets, for my fellow astrologers, you can never learn too much about those building blocks. Happy Sunday, y’all :P
