At the end of this miserable year, I feel highly indebted to those whose daily work has helped me make sense of the unfolding Covid crisis. Feels slightly odd to say ‘thanks’ to these people most of whom I don’t know, but also wrong not to. So here goes...1/9
Changes in work/life mean I’m now a regular @BBCPM listener (+ve shift). @EvanHD deserves a medal for his unique blend of analysis, perspective, soothing wit & human decency. A truly classy broadcaster & ideal company for the 2020 Covid-journey. 2/9
I’ve become heavily reliant on outstanding epidemiologists/statisticians such as @d_spiegel @mugecevik @chrischirp @AdamJKucharski @MarionKoopmans @neil_ferguson @JeremyFarrar @devisridhar @DrEricDing. All top experts (& tweeters) who’ve transformed public understanding. 3/9
A special prize must go to @katelamble for her indefatigable work unearthing the truth about *claims* made about Covid testing through 2020 - indeed @BBCMoreOrLess & @TimHarford were peerless throughout 2020. 4/9
Huge plaudits to @jburnmurdoch for taking data journalism to a whole new level & illuminating UK’s comparative performance. The brilliant @OurWorldInData @MaxCRoser team have had a remarkable year too. And @UKCovid19Stats & @COVID19actuary have been outstanding data sources. 5/9
There’s been exceptional & sensitive reporting from @BBCFergusWalsh from ICUs while @clivecookson @hannahkuchler have been excellent sources of insight and updates on vaccine developments 6/9
A shout out to @NeilDotObrien for his excellent insights & robust myth slaying. Very heartening to see an MP play this sort of public service role in a crisis. 7/9
Last but certainly not least, @lewis_goodall’s many @BBCNewsnight pieces on Covid & the care sector were absolutely essential & gave proper voice to one the most important stories of the crisis. 8/9
There's too much mis-information on this site, so I didn’t want this shitty year to end without thanking at least some of the folks who’ve worked to spread some light. 9/9
