I’m concerned about the impact these industry migrations will have on local communities.

“Bringing Silicon Valley to Miami” is not only a big “paja mental” (sorry for the vulgarity lol), it’s a bad one.

You can’t disassociate the Bay Area’s problems from the tech crowd. https://twitter.com/scottlincicome/status/1343258359693193216
A few people have assured me that the techies fleeing SF have learned their lesson and will push “conservative” economic policies where they go.

The first half of that is bullshit. Liberalism is a lifestyle brand.

The second part just means corporatist cronyism. No thanks.
Conservative public policy-making should try to CONSERVE local communities and cultures.

I get why South Florida is alluring to rich guys in SF and NYC. THEIR quality of life would improve in Miami.

What about for the people who already live in Miami? Not so much.
Look at Miami's workforce and compare it to that of Silicon Valley.

The notion that a bunch of tech and investment management firms moving to Miami creates a bonanza for native Miamians is a canard.

It would displace locals, disrupt communities, and raise housing costs.
Here's a snapshot of Miami's workforce broken down by industry. The biggest job losses are in the leisure, education, health, and retail sectors.

How is relocating a bunch of rich Silicon Valley tech workers to Miami going to help these people?
Here are Miami's wages broken down by industry and compared to national averages. Note: The national avg's aren't limited to large metropolitan areas.

How will maintenance workers making $13.50 per hour afford to live in a Miami with Silicon Valley prices?

Hint: They can't.
Indeed. The responses I get from leaders when I raise these concerns is invariably some version of: "Trust us. They're economically conservative!"

That just means the Silicon Valley crowd wants to pay fewer taxes. No shit. Everyone does. https://twitter.com/Cernovich/status/1343281731835633664
