Since I watched @LastBlockDoc a few days ago, it's got me reflecting on when I worked at Blockbuster when I was in high school. Here's a thread of a few stories. 1/
When Blockbuster dropped late fees, there was some loophole or glitch where, if a member had a credit card on file, it would be automatically charged late fees after a certain amount of time. That created a bit of a customer service nightmare for me, an anxiety filled teenager.
A pair of elderly ladies once came into the store to rent movies for their friend's birthday party. After giving them suggestions, they clarified that they wanted "really, really dirty porn." That created a bit of a customer service nightmare for me, an anxiety filled teenager.
One day we got a call from another store warning us that a guy came in, asked for a movie (maybe Boyz n the Hood?) and when they were searching for it, he started stealing shit. About an hour later, the guy came into my store and did the same thing.
We called the police but the guy was able to get into a storage room and stole a couple PSP games. He cut himself in the process and there was blood all over the place. That created a bit of a customer service nightmare for me, an anxiety filled teenager.
Being able to rent "pre-streets" (movies we had in stock before their release date) for free was really cool. And I would spend a lot of time after my shifts browsing the previously viewed for sale shelves. I bought a lot of previously viewed movies.
