The number of times I've heard "Do you really think Cincinnati or Coastal Carolina could compete with Alabama?" is too high to count.

If that's your standard, you need to get out of this sport and re-evaluate how you find joy in life.
Those of you responding "But they wouldn't" are making the point. That shouldn't be the lens through which we look at college football as a whole. There are so many fun teams and players.

But it's what we've been programmed to care about above all else since the CFP started.
College football used to be about debating which team was better. Now it's debating which team deserves the right to get blown out by Alabama or Clemson. It's not healthy.
It's ultimately why the CFP needs to expand to 8.

We need to make qualifying for the Playoff the ultimate goal, not getting selected. Something everyone can reach on the field and everyone can celebrate.

Then you can still get Alabama-Clemson and leave people happy.
