Steve Trevor doesn't teach me a lot about Diana, meanwhile Etta Candy's friendship with Diana is where we first learned about who she is as a person all the way back in the 40s. Etta's overall spotty presence in the franchise is always and has always been a glaring omission.
When people talk about how they don't get Wonder Woman, I'm like, that's because we've been reading her as a Superman without a Jimmy Olsen for decades. There's no counterbalance that tells us who she is when she's relaxed and not navigating Amazon or Trevor stuff.
Etta at her best is Diana's confident and despite having no powers throws herself into the line of fire repeatedly. Those Pine parts of the fight scenes were grating for me because why? but if it had been Etta it would have RULED.
I also hate that Etta constantly gets reimagined into a military context when she shows up these days because it was so rad when she was just hanging out with a bunch of other babes doing hijinks all the time. Like why would you get rid of that.
Etta Candy is one of those characters where I'm like, what in the HELL, this is a fat and proud beautiful badass who mopped the floor with fascists and then there's just like 80 years of comics where she's barely in the book. They did you dirty, Etta. They truly did.
We can also get into the fact that it's hard to call a character feminist when she ends up fighting like every woman she comes into contact with besides the Amazons who she interacts with as royalty rather than on a personal level and how Etta changes that but you know what.
