normie research dump from our "im on zoom therefore i am / fuck covid" post-xmas "get together"

tldr: just bc people on crypto twitter think you're cool does not mean you aren't insane (or something)
1/ "no eth is not money. crypto is not money."

Argue all you want and get into the minutia but it didnt stimulate curiosity with my non-crypto folks / irl / offline friends—it stimulated arguments where they've already decided I'm crazy.
2/ "yeah Bitcoin is digital gold makes sense."

It's the digital part. It's taking gold, building it, modernizing it. Not claiming to be actual gold.

That said none of them had ever had any interest in buying gold & if the zombie apocalypse comes they'd rather have gas. 🤷‍♀️
3/ "the fed prints money all the time because paper money degrades."

and.........
4/ "well how much do they print normally? Did they print more bc covid germs?"

and once we got over the literally printing part....
5/ "right but they borrowed it from someone like china or issued new bonds or whatever. it's not like they literally printed it or even just spun it out of thin air. Still normal."

Takeaways from 3, 4, 5....
People have very little sense of what is not normal and even less sense today with the polarized convos.

Any argument I made was put on the same box as any other argument / half-known existing knowledge. Then thrown in the "I don't have the energy to try to care" trash bin.
Basically: they don't trust the government but they don't trust me or anyone else to tell them to truth either. They assume everyone is self serving and manipulating any situation to benefit themselves.
The "yeah the fed prints money all the time duh" response caught me off guard but lol they are right. But the entire money printer go BRRR meme was completely lost of them bc of that.
Biggest thing that did make them perk up was when they wanted to compare this year to past in terms of where debt came from and gdp and shit. Who knows if that's any more or less valid than any other shit but they did start googling. 🤷‍♀️
So basically from the "Bitcoin is digital gold" "eth is money" and "money printer go BRRR" none were enough to get them actually interested in even diving in more, let alone buying. Bitcoin as digital gold won but only in that it lost the least. Well, until....
6/ "have fun staying poor"

Note: one had bought something in nov 2017 on NOT my advice. One got in on btc and eth in June 2020 on my advice.

After some back & forth they all bought some (more) after looking at green graphs and shit. Esp bc paypal/cash make it so brainless.
So my least favorite meme ever...the one thats arrogant and douchy and makes me want to slap udi no matter who says it...

That's what made them go "lol but it crashed and died you're poor!" to "oh shit it's up" to "oh shit it's up and no one knows it yet" to "buy"
But whatever they're all gunna owe me big-time when they're not poor so fuck it.
