I'm wary of 'identity politics' and the divisive tendencies it entails. But I don't dismiss it. As a middle class, white, straight man, I have not personally experienced identity-based inequalities. So I try to listen to people who have. 1/3
But it is ludicrous for people who dismiss identity politics to then claim to be standing up for the ‘white working class’; the epitome of intersectional identity politics. 2/3
And for people on the left to spend more time attacking the idea of identity-based inequalities than they do on creating solidarity against the material effects of right-wing policies (e.g. increasing poverty and deaths among the poorest working class people) seems bizarre. 3/3
