OK - Christmas is over. Over the last few days I have noted down a few things I think need covering.

A lot of it is related to claims being made without any real data to back them up...

Without wanting to sound too @carlheneghan, where is the evidence?

Back to work. https://twitter.com/ScienceShared/status/1343204328199385088
Turning this into a thread which I will come back to with claims being made by politicians/scientists without any real evidence.

Example 2 https://twitter.com/ScienceShared/status/1341816788733059073?s=20
Example 3

I have heard that the evidence he presented in the morning to NERVTAG is not actually statistically significant, and the change is small.

Worrying precedent. https://twitter.com/janemerrick23/status/1341705177213104128?s=20
Previous claim by Prof Neil Ferguson apparently rebutted by Dr Susan Hopkins at a later press conference who says 'we have no evidence this virus is more transmissible in children yet.'
We must be careful not to destroy public faith in science by constantly making claims which may well turn out to be untrue.

We must be sure not to exaggerate evidence or certainty to try and justify (possibly necessary) restrictions.

Truth supersedes all.
Example number 4

Liverpool mass asymptomatic serial testing (MAST) pilot results showing that MAST did not have a significant causal impact on reducing cases or hospitalisations, but gov and others somehow using this as a success - more detailed thread coming on this soon.
