Did anyone else find out about the Tulsa Massacre from Bailey Sarian because history classes erased it and deemed it "unimportant"
Literally 35 city blocks completely destroyed in the chaos
800+ treated for injuries and 35 believed to be killed though that number has some debate because historians think it was more than 35
The National Guard was called on Greenwood to round up people basically for being black and held them in three main locations for up to 8 days
Before the NG was called white rioters were threatening and taking black workers and people from their homes and place of work mostly by gun point
At one point planes were flying over head shooting rifles down at the black citizens of Greenwood
And it was started because a white woman made a claim that a black teenager named Dick Roland sexually assaulted her in the elevator she was working but she later dropped all charges and was said to not have even happened
He was kept highly guarded in the holding cell so he wasn't killed and once the charges were dropped he left from Greenwood and Montgomery area for good
Once this whole event was over and the dead were found and the wounded were being treated there was NO public ceremony for them and no recognition for them and numerous had unmarked graves
The government did their very very best to cover the whole thing up and make it look like nothing happened at all, it wasn't talked about, wasn't mentioned in history classes/books and governmental records were missing about it
In 1996, 75 years after this occurred in 1921 they FINALLY had a memorial for the dead at the church and started to look into the Tulsa Race Riots to see what had happened
