Private health insurance is an extractive system. If you don’t believe me, consider the second home I got to see in Hawaii of two healthcare executives. Several million dollars of your premiums that are supposed to be there for you when you’re sick went to buy that house. 1/n
When you really need healthcare insurance, you get hit with surprise bills and “running out of coverage.” Private health insurance debt, even under Obamacare, is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy. So we get suboptimal care with overwhelming debt, driving more illness. 2/n
It is time for an overhaul. We need to stop extracting the wealth from a public good and a human right—healthcare. We need to keep the money inside a system that is geared only to take care of our people when they are ill 3/n
AND our people in their maintenance of wellness. We need broad expansion of coverage so that millions of healthcare workers in herbalism, massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractics and other modalities are employed to serve the people. 4/n
We deserve to be healthy and not be in debt. It is time to abolish the extractive system of Healthcare Insurance. They are unnecessary and even contrary to a healthy society. It is time for #MedicareForAll n/n
