Dear news anchors, It’s only a suicide bombing IF the perpetrator’s death was intentional part of the attack. Remains alone don’t = suicide bombing. I’ve never seen a VBIED Park & stay in the vehicle. You either leave the vehicle or use it to ram. The terminology you use matters
I understand that @niaCNN is just reading the copy but I’m surprised that @CNN is reporting this as a suicide bombing without a manifesto, last will & testament video, claim of responsibility! This is the SAME mistake they made with Hasna Ait Boulacen (2015) all over again.

If this was a lone actor (operating without a group) it is likely they revealed some element of the plot to family or friends beforehand. @paulgill_ucl has found “leakage” in over 72% of lone actor attacks across the spectrum. I get that the news doesn’t appreciate nuance but

there tends to be overlap between people who believe in flat earth, 9/11 inside job, #Qanon, #DominionVotingConspiracy & opposition to 5G are often a Venn diagram of overlapping conspiracy beliefs. As I explained in my SMA talk on the 15th, many of these ppl suffer mental illness

This case is an outlier in many ways. To maximize publicity the bomber straps the bomb to himself & explodes publicly or rams the vehicle into the target. Some preattack indicators (settling financial accounts, signing the deeds to his property) are present. Q of leakage remains.
The vast majority of lone actors tell friends or family details about the plot ahead of time. As the FBI investigates talking to Mr Warren’s friends & family will yield additional details to explain his motives. If he left a manifesto or suicide note that will also help the case
