For the last 4yrs or so I've strictly read African Authors or Authors of African descent. This year end and as promised to @AbigailArunga I said I'd review the books I've read.
So here goes. A đŸ“šđŸ§”
13. An Ochestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma.
I eagerly picked this book up because I really enjoyed reading "The Fishermen" by the same author but weeeh. This book draaaaaaged. Oh my. It was my least favorite read of the year.
12. House of Stone by Novuyo Rosa Tshuma.
The story of a young man searching for an identity.
Started quite slow...with a repetition of certain phrases throughout the book, however it does pick momentum and piques your interest.
11. Nairobi Noir by A plethora of talented Kenyan Authors.

I quite enjoyed this collection of short stories. Some funny, others Ironic, some gut wrenching. Emotions will be all over the place when you read this.
I'd highly recommend you gerrit😁
Cc @KKombani @Wordslinger__
10. An Abundance of Scorpions by Hadiza Isma El- Rufai.
This book is a whirlwind about a matron in an orphanage after going through her own hell. I love when a book is enthralling from the 1st page. The ending , however is abrupt. I felt we needed a few more chapters. 😄
9. Becoming Nigerian by Elnathan John.
Listen, this book had me chuckling, cackling and at certain points bursting out laughing😂. I mean I'm Kenyan but I identified with everything written.
It's an easy read. Perfect for travelling or chilling by a fire with a glass of wine.
8. The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu
A story of a young woman working as a Hairdresser raising her young daughter when a certain dashing man with a secret enters the picture and of course discombobulates things as men do😁.
It's a good read. Predictable, but good.
7. Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi.
After reading this I firmly believe Yaa Gyasi is destined for greatness.
It wasn't easy following the success of "Homegoing" but this book did it.
No family should go through what she writes about. Addiction, Loss. Phew.😞
6.The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré
Follows the story of child bride, Adunni, who faces traumas no child should go through in order to survive.
The story is interesting, however I found the 'broken English ' prose a tad distracting even though it's vital to the story.
5. Thursdays by Jackson Biko
I dunno...maaaan....I dunno.
I'm conflicted on this. The first half has some drawn out descriptions of the characters in a band called "Vina Wira" , with only Halima and Abasalom holding your interest. The rest is predictable 🙊
4.Thomas Sankara Speaks.

This, actually, is a collection of Thomas Sankara's speeches which were found, translated and put together in this great book.
Get this book. Teach your kids, nieces, nephews, pals, colleagues Yaaani everyone on the greatness that was Thomas Sankara🧡
3.Girl, Woman,Other by Bernardine Evaristo.
You know how in the series "This is Us" you need a notebook to keep up with the flashbacks, characters and storyline.
This. Is .exactly. like. that.
It takes time.
2. Buried Beneath The Baobab Tree by Adaobi.T.Nwaubani.
ATN is the author of 1 of my favourite books'I do not come to you by chance'. This is a sharp contrast to that book. It speaks on the atrocities of Boko Haram from the perspective of kidnapped girls kept as slaves or wives😭
1. The Havoc of Choice by Wanjiru Koinange.
This book is F***ing brilliant!!! There's no other way to put it. Wanjiru writes about the 2007 POV but also manages to captivate you through the lives of the families she writes of. You will cry.
Give @ShiroKoinange ALL THE AWARDS.
So that's it.
Let me know which books you've read from African authors that I can add to my 2021 reading list.
All Wildlife prints you see on this đŸ§” are shot by me and are 4sale.
Hala at your favourite Mbichagrapher for your print😊
All books are from @PrestigeNBI @rafubooks 😎
