On this day (27 December, 1797), one of the greatest poets of Urdu, Asad Ullah Baig better known by his pen name #Ghalib was born in Kala Mahal, Agra.
As the Mughal Prince Sultan Fakhr-ud-din and Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar were also poets, so the Ghalib was appointed the royal tutor of both of them. Mughal court awarded him the titles of Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najam-ud-Daula, Nizam-e-Jung, Mirza Nosha and Khan.
According to many literary critics only the poetry of Allama Iqbal Lahori can give competition to Ghalib. He have a status of legend among poetry lovers. Along with his poetry Ghalib is also famous for his sense of humor.
Ghalib witnessed many events in his life including the flourishing Delhi as cultural hub, declining Mughal monarchy, war of independence, financial crisis and most importantly the death of his seven childern during infancy. We can see the effect of these events on his poetry.
He wrote in both Urdu and Persian languages. His Divan-e-Farisi was atleast five times longer than as compare to Divan-e-Urdu. According to Ghalib his persian poetry is more marvelous as compare to the Urdu poetry but his fame rests on his poetry in Urdu.
One of my best poetic verse:

رنج سے خوگر ہوا انساں تو مٹ جاتا ہے رنج
مشکلیں مجھ پر پڑیں اتنی کہ آساں ہو گئیں
