Thread on Shirdi Sai Baba:-
Sai was first seen in Shirdi as a young boy meditating under a neem tree. The villagers were surprised to see a young saint in their village
It was at this moment that he called Baisa, W/O of Appa Kote Patil as “Maa” for the first time
Baisa & Appa Patil were a childless couple at that time. Baisa Ma could not ignore Sai’s call & accepted him as her son
Sai left Shirdi after a few days only to return years later when he helped a Muslim Chand find his lost horse
Sai re-entered Shirdi years later & stopped at the Khandoba Temple of Shirdi, where he was greeted by Mahalsapatiji
Mahalsapati Ji was the priest of the Khandoba temple of Shirdi.
Khandoba , Martanda Bhairava, Malhari, or Malhar is a Hindu deity worshiped as a manifestation of Shiva mainly in the Deccan plateau of India, especially in the state of Maharashtra. He is the most popular Kuladaivat (family deity) in Maharashtra.
It was Mahalsapati Ji which gave the name of Sai to him. Upon his coming, he said “Aao Sai”. Nobody knows why.
Sai Baba then settled in the outskirts of Shirdi in a Khandar
It is said that this Khandar was the remains of a mosque. He named it DWARKA MAYI. Imagine naming a Mosque Dwarka Maayi Today
Sai Baba being a saint was also a Doctor or “VAIDYA” He miraculously cured his patients with his Aushadis or Vibhuti. Sai Baba had immense knowledge of Traditional Indian Herbs which he often used in his treatments
He Lit a fire in one corner of Dwarka Maayi. Upon doing so he had said that it will keep burning till the end of time. Interestingly, it still burns today. The Vibhuti or Odhi which he used in treatments is a miraculous one. Often healing patients in no time
He also gave Darshan (vision) to people in the form of Sri Rama, Krishna, Vithoba, Shiva and many other gods depending on the faith of devotees. According to his followers, he appeared to them in their dreams and gave them advice. His devotees have documented many stories.
It is said in many legends that Sai Baba had lit Diyas with water on Diwali increasing People’s Shraddha on him & making him very popular outside Shirdi
Sai’s Dwarka Maayi was an interesting one. It had the Miraculous Fire burning in one of its corner. Sai Baba’s sitting against the back wall. There was also a Tulsi Plant outside in the “Aangan’
Sai Baba’s most famous teaching was ‘Shraddha and Saburi”. He emphasized on the Importance of Karma or “Karm Yoga”. He explained Luck as the Fruit of your Karma
Sai Baba encouraged charity and stressed the importance of sharing. He said Unless there is some relationship or connection, nobody goes anywhere. If any men or creatures come to you, do not discourteously drive them away, but receive them well and treat them with due respect.
Sri Hari (God) will certainly be pleased if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and your verandah to strangers for sitting and resting. If anybody wants any money from you and you are not inclined to give, do not give, but do not shout at him
Sai Baba encouraged his devotees to pray, chant God's name, and read holy scriptures. He told Muslims to study the Qur'an and Hindus to study texts such as the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Vasistha.
He was impressed by the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and encouraged people to follow it in their own lives.[39] He advised his devotees and followers to lead a moral life, help others, love every living being without any discrimination
In his teachings, Sai Baba emphasised the importance of performing one's duties without attachment to earthly matters and of being content regardless of the situation
Sai Baba left behind no spiritual heirs, appointed no disciples, and did not provide formal initiation (diksha), despite requests.
Some of Sai Baba's notable disciples include Mahalsapathi, Madhav Rao (Shama), Nanasaheb Peshway, Bayijabai, Tatya Kote Patil, Kakasaheb Dixit, Radhakrishna Maai, Hemadpant, Bhuti, Das Ganu, Lakshmi Bai, Nanavali, Upasni Maharaj, Abdul Baba, Sapatanekar, Nanasaheb Chandodkar.
The above mentioned people have interesting stories attached to them, If you want you can search about articles on them & give them a read
Some disciples of Sai Baba achieved fame as spiritual figures, such as Upasni Maharaj of Sakori. After the demise of Sai Baba, his devotees offered the daily Aarti to Upasni Maharaj when he paid a visit to Shirdi twice within 10 years.
Sai Baba’s devotees greet each other with OM SAI RAM or JAI SAI NATH which debunks claims which call him a Muslim Maulvi & favouring genocides of Hindus
Your opinion may differ on him but at least respect him as a Great Saint nonetheless. Stop abusing him & calling him a Terrorist & making fake claims saying that he forced Hindus into genocide.
