IMPORTANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF MARKANDEYA PURAN.

Reading this Puran is beneficial to all. It contains nine thousand shlokas and is narrated through birds.
First there is a description of questions asked by Muni to rishi Markandeya.

Then it tells us about the birth of dharma following birds, their previous birth and curse of Indra to them. Then there is tirthyatra by Balbhadra, story of the five sons of Draupadi, story of Harishchandra, the war between Aadi and Buck( both birds),

Dattatreya, Haiheya, Madalsa, Dweeps, Deepcharya, story of Manu in eighth Manvantar.

Then we have the origin of Pranav from the power of three Vedas, birth of Suryadev, the dynasty of Vaivaswat Manu, story of Vatsapri, story of Khanitra, King Avikshit, vrat of Kimichhik,

Narshiyant story, ikshavaku, Nal, dynasty of Kusha, Somvansh, Pururava, Nahush, Yayati, Yaduvansh, Krishna leela and other avatars, Sankhya Yog, Falsehood, life of Markandeya ji etc. Also it mentions Devi Bhagwati stories.

Those who read or listen to this Puran are relieved from this Maya. The one analysing this book goes to Shivlok. Those getting this book written and donated on Karthik purnima get Brahmpad. The one reading the index gets his wish fulfilled.
