Sun, 12/27/20:

Today is the feast of St. John, Ap & Ev, under the 1954 (double of the II class w/simple octave) rubrics. Proper Mass. White vestments. Gloria & Credo. Preface of the Nativity. Proper Communicantes for Christmas in the Canon. (cont)
(2)

Commemoration of the octave of Christmas (orations from the Mass of Christmas Day). No commemoration of the Sunday in the octave of Christmas (transferred in full [Office & Mass] to 12/30). (cont)
(3)

Under the 1962 rubrics, today is the Sunday in the octave of Christmas. Proper Mass. White vestments. Gloria & Credo. Preface of the Nativity. Proper Communicantes in the Canon. (cont)
(4)

Under the 1962 rubrics, commemoration is made of St. John at Lauds and low Mass only due to rubric changes made in 1960 that elevated the Sunday in the octave over all feasts. (cont)

IMO, this is one of the worst of the 1960 changes, as the ancient feasts of St. Stephen, St. John, and the Holy Innocents could be suppressed w/o even commemoration at sung Mass if they fell on Sunday. (cont)

The pre-1960 practice of transferring the Sunday to 12/30 when a feast of higher rank fell on the Sunday wasn't perfect, but it at least acknowledged the unique nature of these ancient feasts. The 1962 rubrics are too rational, too divorced from tradition IMO.

No commemoration of the octave of Christmas today under the 1962 rubrics (considered an unnecessary duplication by the authors of the 1960 Code).
