With all due respect to @DrZweliMkhize and @ProfAbdoolKarim this is far, far too little. SA govt’s message, and more importantly its efforts, have to be bifurcated: 1)it needs to communicate with the greatest possible transparency how it plans to secure an efficacious vaccine 1/ https://twitter.com/drzwelimkhize/status/1342148935641608193
With the greatest speed and 2)how principles of fair global access are not just high minded principles to the detriment of actual lives but actually save lives in that no one is safe unless all are safe & that there can be no return to ‘normal’ until there is general access 2/
This becomes even more imperative when, as seems increasingly certain, some type of renewed lockdown or more stringent regulations are to be imposed in SA. To ask an increasingly fatigued, anxious population to keep faith with these new comtraints requires that they be /3
Offered real, tangible hope. To ask amid all this increasing uncertainty that we all hold fast requires that we be shown our destination —- be shown that it is well in sight — and that destination has to be delivery of the vaccine to all in SA. 4/4
