sometimes people *do* have bad takes/do bad things but the response they get is still disproportionate, especially when their ability to do harm has been negated and people are still going after them anyway despite it having no positive impact on the world, just because it's fun
bullying can still be bullying even if someone said something hurtful, IMO. when the intent stops being about accountability/reducing harm, esp. if they can't really harm anyone any more and you still go after them for fun, it's just regular old bullying but socially acceptable
someone makes a dumb tweet that later gets deleted/apologized for but it's funny so you keep making fun of them- i know i was laughing at the 'himbo is ableist' person, for example. i've been guilty of this too. but seeking moral justification for bullying doesn't make it ethical
what's also frustrating is that critiquing the bullying or pointing out that it's not helping anyone can be seen as defending the original bad take/act. and it can be, in some circumstances! but i don't think you have to support someone to object to goalless cruelty against them.
