Hi! I’m a software engineer, I’ve been concerned about electronic voting machine security for about 15 years, and I helped run a vote center in California (a favorite target). The allegations about voter fraud and hacking is total nonsense. AMA.
There are many people dedicated to running fair, free, secure, and accessible elections. And there’s a process for cross checking results and for improving the processes over time.
What the President and his allies are doing falls far outside of any rational cross checking or process improvement — so far outside that their actions are an attack on our elections, not any kind of good faith argument.
They’ve perpetuated an environment where people send death threats to election officials and to employees of an election system vendor. THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is not how you work things out in a democracy. It’s the raging of a frustrated narcissist.
The more I’ve learned about the details of our local system — which now uses a mixture of hand marked paper ballots and Dominion ballot marking machines — the more confident I’ve become in its security.
Nothing’s perfect. But the kinds of fraud allegations being thrown around by the President, where coherent enough to check, are just not consistent with basic evidence. That’s why they’re being dismissed by everybody including GOP election officials.
But if anyone is curious about how things actually work and what measures are in place to prevent outcome-impacting fraud, happy to talk about that with the interested.
*are total nonsense. Sigh.
