how to help someone who is hallucinating, a thread
first thing you wanna do is quietly and slowly approach the person. quietly, not silently. make sure they know you're there. ask them what's happening.
let them know they are hallucinating and what they're seeing or hearing isn't real. if they don't believe you, DO NOT argue with them. they need to feel like they can trust you.
don't rush them. try and ease them into a simple activity like watching tv. bring their attention to something else.
drugs , hallucinations //

if the person's hallucinations are a product of drugs, this will be a bit more difficult to deal with. the person likely will not be able to think clearly and it'll be hard to distract them or have a coherent conversation with them at all
drug-induced hallucinations are more violent and scary. there is a chance that the person will not be able to ground themself and let themself know that the things they're sensing aren't real, especially with continued use of the drug.
some things you can do to help someone who may be suffering from meth induced hallucinations are: remain calm while approaching them. speak slowly and in short sentences. don't confuse the person.
if the person is currently using meth as you approach them, distract them. try as hard as you can to get them to abandon the drug.
turn down any lights, cut off any music, and try to limit the amount of people in the environment. now, ask the person what's going on. DO NOT TELL THE PERSON THAT THEIR HALLUCINATIONS/DELUSIONS/PARANOIA ISN'T REAL. calmly tell them that you understand, but you aren't +
experiencing what they are experiencing. make sure the person is breathing well. if the person becomes violent or aggressive, distance yourself and contact authorities. in cases of extreme paranoia, authorities should be contacted immediately. but remember to remain calm.
as someone who experiences hallucinations, most people don't know how to help or respond when i'm hallucinating. i wanna normalize these conversations and information and ensure that people know how to help someone who may be struggling with this. thanks for reading :]
end of thread.
i would also like to add that schizophrenic hallucinations aren't always scary or violent. sometimes it's things as simple as hearing music !!
