The "let Trump get it out of his system" argument is aging horribly.
Over the last few weeks I've seen people on both sides of my family repeating these kinds of talking points, and it's really scary to see otherwise bright people following these kinds of conspiracy theories. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1342974370822692867

Recently, after mentioning that my childhood neighbor just died of COVID, I was told that COVID is "bullshit" because the hospitals are marking "everything" as COVID, including car accidents.
This is the exact nonsense we've heard from Trump and Trump friendly outlets all along.

Trump's downplaying of COVID for political gain has led to a celebration of mocking experts, which has led to the idea that *not* wearing a mask is a badge of honor instead of the reality of just being a douchebag to those around you.
These talking points have real consequences.

Then I was around otherwise smart people talking about how the election was stolen, repeating the repeatedly debunked claims of ballots being "found overnight," massive mail-in ballot fraud, etc.
They will *only* listen to sources that confirm their bias, and facts don't matter.

There are *millions* of people who not only believe the election was stolen, but believe that Trump would be right to do something to stop Biden from taking over.
These are not "random" nutjobs, and they are being encouraged and enabled by Trump and way too many Republicans.

I don't care that Trump hasn't been able to steal the election - that he would do it without a second thought if he could should have raised alarms within the GOP seven weeks ago.
Instead we have House and Senate Republicans actively encouraging this behavior. It's abhorrent.

Republicans blocked efforts to count mail-in votes early in key states because they wanted that 'red mirage' so they could claim fraud if Biden won.
People warned about it in the weeks leading up to the election, and the worries were justified.
They knew what they were doing.

These Republicans and Trump friendly outlets know better, and yet they are inciting and manipulating their base for ratings money and campaign cash.
It is having real world impacts, and it's not going to go away after Trump leaves the White House.
They know what they're doing.
