Short thread on RDS failures. First up: front lens obstruction. Back up sights are useless, but dot is still visible. Fix keep eyes focused on the target, brain magic kicks in, keep dot on target and do the rigger work. Most likely will go unnoticed.
Second, rear lens obstruction. Back up sights are also useless. Overcome by also keeping eyes focused on target and covering it with the backplate of the slide, or the frame of the RDS, and use the top of the RDS. With good trigger work and grip, can still make accurate shots.
Last one is a complete RDS failure. Most likely caused by dead battery. Solution, change out the battery with regular frequency. I do this on my birthday because it's easy to remember. Back up sights can help. The methods for overcoming a rear lens obstruction also work.
