Warning, COVID related thread ahead: perhaps the most aggravating issue in the COVID panic of 2020 is the allegation that if one challenges the mandates - the lockdowns, the forced mask-wearing, the isolation from others, etc - then one does not love people. There is no middle 1/
ground, no alternative perspective that is allowed. One must fully subscribe to the panic madness or one is consigned to being a hate-filled, selfish intentional virus-spreader who doesn't care one bit about possibly making others sick. Quite honestly, I find such a notion not 2/
only ludicrous but entirely insulting. One doesn't have to be a Fauci acolyte to believe that COVID not only exists, but also makes some people very sick. In fact, one can be very concerned about how the virus impacts others without succumbing to the fearful panic induced by 2/
our politicians and media. See, every single year people are impacted by terrible illnesses such as flu, pneumonia, bronchitis and more. Sadly, there have been terrible flu seasons that have not only swamped hospitals but even took the lives of the vulnerable. And we always 3/
recognized that such illnesses exist, that we must take care not to take unnecessary risks, like visiting grandma when I have the sniffles. We knew to wash our hands, cough into our arms, keep our distance, not go out when we’re ill, or shake hands if not feeling well. We kept 4/
ourselves informed and did what was feasible to keep risks down, like getting a flu shot. We didn't shut down businesses, we didn't close schools, we didn't deprive people of the ability to provide for their families, and we didn't shame people into slapping a piece of fabric 5/
over their faces. It was because we not only cared about those who were sick, but those who were well that we didn't take draconian measures. We understood viruses existed, that they don't go away by putting people in individual bubbles, and that no matter how restrictive you 6/
tried to be, chances were, you were eventually going to get sick. We recognized the paralyzing fear of getting sick was actually a form of paranoia and could even be understood to be a mental illness. We didn't tout such fear as a virtue, but a mind that needed help and care. 7/
Today, however, we have turned this all on its head. Fear is virtue. Isolation is caring for the sick. Shame and mockery of those who disagree is considered the preferred manner to align others with the new order of things. We have rejected the idea that you can mutually be 8/
concerned for the well and the sick. It is not allowable to believe that a person can not only wish to do what is reasonable to prevent spread but to also keep people in a place of providing for themselves and their families. Science, with its ever-moving goalposts, is deemed 9/
the supreme authority, yet, science previously told us that quarantine was for the sick, not the well. Science told us masks were to keep the sick from spreading germs, not for the well to be protected. Science used to take great care in preparing medication, doing long-term 10/
studies to ensure as much safety as possible before widespread use. The simple truth is, one need not have a Ph.D. to know something about COVID has been used to create mass fear and paranoia in our society. It has been used to flex to muscles of petty tyrants worldwide. 11/
But understand this, my objections to mandates has nothing to do with not caring about others. I care about everyone, the sick and the well. I want people to be as safe as they can, but I want people to live their lives and provide for their families. It may be shocking to 12/
believe, but it is possible to care about both. So, please, the next time you see me post my objection to mask and mandates, save the pious rebukes. I care about people, but my care is not just restricted to viruses. End/
