Getting a job comes with a huge responsibility of paying bills. If you don’t have a job, you can’t afford to pay your bills, whether you are single or married.

A woman who started working at a younger age, with a family to take care of, will have no issues paying her bills. Whereas, a woman who has never worked in her life and keeps getting things handed to her, might not
understand the concept of splitting bills all of a sudden. She will always choose a partner that can maintain her lifestyle, without wanting to work for it.

they contribute to the bills, and also offer them green card or other financial benefit. And that, Nigerian women don’t like contributing and often feel entitled to men’s wealth. Some men argued that gender roles are necessary in Nigeria.
Foreign women pay bills because it’s one of those thoughtful things to do. It’s part of being a responsible adult, to contribute your quota, being that the standard of living is higher in many countries abroad. There’s employment and some of these women
also grew up paying bills at a younger age, or grew up in a home where parents split bills. The system does not encourage gender roles.
Overseas, couples are seen as equal therefore, they take care of their family equally. However, whomever earns more is expected to pay more.

Some foreign men quit their jobs to stay home while their wives go out to work, in cases where the women earn more. Someone has to take care of the children but the woman who brings more money can’t afford to quit her job.
The common sense here is that, if a woman splits bills with her husband, it would reduce the burden of overworking himself. He would get to spend more time at home with his family.
This is also the reasons why, in the case of divorce, both couple are to split their properties equally (in cases where there wasn’t any pre-nuptial agreement in favor of one partner).

Whereas, in Nigeria, there is a huge unemployment, to begin with. Many men have also taken
advantage of this situation to entice women with lots of money, which encourages the entitlement that men complain about. More men are into business and in the workforce than women. A Nigerian man doesn’t feel confident enough without money, even if he’s highly educated.
He believes that money can get him any woman he wants. Some use money to introduce themselves to women in public. Some, feel that they can’t get a woman to date them without money. So they start giving.
They just can’t say no, even when they are clearly unhappy about being asked for money all the time. By doing this, they indirectly encourage the same habit they hate the most.
But there are also employed Nigerian women in Nigeria, in the workforce or in business making money
But there are also employed Nigerian women in Nigeria, in the workforce or in business making money
and we have to ask, do these women also depend on men to fund their lifestyle? Don’t they pay bills? Are men responsible for their upkeep? I guess not.
I don’t know the percentage of employed Nigerian women that pay bills at home, but knowing how a Nigerian man wouldn’t want

to feel as if he can’t take care of his family all by himself, he might decline this offer.
So again, different environment presents different opportunities for women. A foreign woman who pays bills will always see herself as equal and the man has no problem with that,

but would a Nigerian man see himself as equal to a Nigerian woman that pays bills in their home too?
Think about Nigerian women who live overseas with their Nigerian husbands. They work and pay bills together but are they equal in their marriage? You tell me.

Foot note:
Many Nigerian men will never let go of gender roles or see their wives as equals, and will never want their wives to pay bills. That’s the only edge some of them have over their employed wives. It’s the culture and we must see it as what it is.
