Joke aside, the ethnicization of the name "Macedonian"&its confinement only to (a part of) the Slavs in geographic Macedonia has caused problems.Original vision 19/early 20th c. revolutionaries was that Macedonian was a common ID shared by all: Greeks, Turks, Albanians,Vlachs etc https://twitter.com/SonerCagaptay/status/1342919526476869635
Macedonian nationalism claimed Macedonian as an exclusive property which has been one of the sources of the conflict with Greece. After all, Greece has 53% of the region of Macedonia and local Greeks think of themselves as Macedonian in the regional sense.
And since Macedonian became exclusionary national ID in Tito's Yugoslavia it is next to impossible to convince an Albanian they too are Macedonian, as they hail from geographic Macedonia. Was a more straight-forward argument in the early 20th c.
