To me, Notion’s public web views are cleaner and less intimidating, really hoping they’ll add simple layout options for record pages. Airtable enables more layout customization but requires paid accounts or add-ons, which can get expensive, esp when you bring in collaborators.
Earlier this year, I used @NotionHQ to start a list of Black Type Designers. I want this to be easy to read and encourage contributions. This is where an accessible public view really matters. https://twitter.com/typographica/status/1270120507480748032
Separately, it’s amazing how useful Airtable has been for the exhibition I’m helping @siborg81 curate for @Lett_Arc. These projects often start as something you feel can be managed in a spreadsheet, but become more of a DB real quick. AT & Notion actually make the work more fun!
And these tools can also be a great way to quickly seed a much larger CMS to come later. @PeoplesGDArc is using Notion to get their collection started and encourage submissions until they build their custom site (modeled on @FontsInUse).
And as soon as we’re done with Type of 2019, we’ll launch a special Typographica site listing all (AFAIK) of the metal foundry type specimens available online. It’s built in Notion, but wishing I could embed the db into my own site. Any plans to allow this, @NotionHQ?
