A thread about how easy it is to damage other people’s joy:

In 2009, I saw AVATAR in theaters and immediately became obsessed. I loved the characters, the lore, literally everything about it.

I saw it multiple times and felt pure happiness every single time.
However, every single friend of mine took absolute glee in shitting on the movie. “Ferngully in space” was a common phrase. “Okay but you don’t...REALLY love it right?” was another big one.

And because of this, my perception was forever changed.
11 years later, I still can’t turn on what was quite literally my favorite movie without remembering that maybe I’m stupid for not disliking it.

And that sucks. A lot.

So if you didn’t like something, that’s just fine. But know the power your words have for your friends who do
