Really dont want to spoil things so I'll say SOUL is terrific but also felt very strange in not necessarily a good way cuz Its kinda like "White women should stay outta Black people's business.....except maybe this once".
Lol forreal you gotta see it for yourself!

The bridging of metaphysical & reality/black identity & generic mainstream appeal in SOUL mostly works despite some rough spots. The one flawless combo though? Jon Batiste's Jazz compositions + the Atticus Ross/Trent Reznor score. Just Incredibly cohesive and inspired!!!
We really do need more children's/family films featuring Black girls/women though, because even while SOUL takes Pixar into some different welcome territory, it still very much has that "dad midlife crisis movie" streak in a good portion of their work.
Definitely recommend this review by @DarkSkyLady though; it does get into the real meat of the plot which you could say is a spoiler, but it's necessary in order to parse one of the big problems of the movie https://www.nightmarishconjurings.com/2020/12/14/nightmarish-detour-review-soul/
BTW, it looks like a good companion piece to SOUL might be....an anime where Jesus & Buddha live together as roommates in Japan. Check out this fascinating essay on SAINT YOUNG MEN by the always insightful @AccentedCinema and subscribe to his great channel
