Look at the floor, did you notice anything?

Maybe you are too busy looking at the neat birds

Tonight, we shall discuss challenges that most Poultry farmers face with controlling odour at their farm

Most Poultry farmers have reached out to me since starting of December asking "How can they control litter smells at their farms"

The truth is that no matter what you do, a place where poultry farm is located will always smell, but there are ways you can reduce such offensive
Odours and one of the most effective ways to do that is

1) Adequate Cleaning : This is generally a culture you should develop. Whether you are operating a deep litter system or a cage system.

Cleaning the farm frequently (could be thrice a week or even daily)
Will go a long way to ensuring that the offensive odour from your farm is minimal.

It is necessary to do this especially, if your farm is located close to a residential area

For instance, I have my farm inside my compound with neighbors living close too
But on entering the gate, you can never know there is a Poultry farm around unless one points you to its direction.

This was achieved because of always ensuring the farm is neat

If your pen is neat, it shows in the color of your birds

If it's dirty, your birds will be looking
Like they just passed the Sahara desert and swam in the dirty river to pass.

So, developing the habit of cleaning your poultry farm is important. Please.

The second point is something many Poultry farmers will hide from you, but with #FantaschickFarms, we don't hide anything 😂
2) Addition of charcoals to litters: I don't know if you use wood shaving on your farm, but that's what we use here, though it is expensive, it is also effective in controlling litter smell.

Adding grounded charcoal to the wood shavings when you
Spray them on the pen after each cleaning will go a long way in helping to absorb the odour in the farm as it contains some anti odour components that makes your farm have less odour..

This was what I was asking you to see if you can notice in our wood shavings.
There are other options such as drugs (I don't like it) that you can use by putting it in their drinking water which can help to control the odour. Such ones are accessible in vet shops

However, I think if you practice the two above points, it will be cheaper
... And less complicated too before you add a drug that will develop ailments in ya birds.

Thanks for reading.. Wishing you a great celebration
