2020 was a not great year. But for me it was a pretty stellar year for sandwiches. I probably ate 400 sandwiches this year and 99% I made at home. This is going to be a long thread of my favorite sandwiches of 2020. I made all the bread and most everything in the photos.
Probably my all time favorite sandwich choice is the fried chicken biscuit. For me, it just hits all the right spots. Usually with just a little honey and mustard or just mustard is perfect.
People might not guess this, but my second favorite sandwich selection is the turkey club. I prefer it without the third slice of bread, but it's good that way too. Turkey, bacon and a good salted tomato on grilled bread is practically perfect.
Some people question whether a cheeseburger is a sandwich or not and I'm here to tell you it is. This is one I made earlier in the year with bacon jam on it.
Right behind the cheeseburger for me is a fried chicken sandwich. These are different from the fried chicken biscuit and I'll argue this until you get tired and quit.
The second best biscuit option is the sausage, egg and cheese. I usually put a little mustard on there as a treat. This is probably the most often biscuit sandwich I eat at home because cooking sausage is much easier than frying chicken.
Similar to the turkey club, we have the BLT. This is almost a perfect sandwich if you can time your eating of it to tomato season. Don't forget to salt the tomato and also grill your bread in the bacon fat!
Because I'm a North Carolina boy through and through I have to include a pulled pork sandwich with slaw.
I tried twice this year to make semi authentic cubans. This second one got closer with the bread. This is just a great sandwich option and if it's on a menu I will give it a serious consideration for my choice.
I love the combination of buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing on a sandwich. This is also different from the fried chicken sandwich and we can discuss that at length if you want.
I had some bacon jam and some cheese and grilled it up. This is a great combination. All the tweets past this one aren't really in order of a ranking of my preference of sandwiches, they're just sandwiches that really stood out in my memory of being good in 2020.
We had cheesesteak night and I chose wiz.
I love a chicken parm sandwich (also not a fried chicken sandwich).
We tried to recreate the other slightly less famous sandwich from Philadelphia except instead of roast pork we used roast turkey. This is turkey, broccoli rabe and red peppers.
Fried shrimp sandwiches are great. The first one has a side of hushpuppies and the second one here was an attempt at a New Orleans po boy.
The best reason to make meatloaf is the sandwiches you make the next day. This is a true fact.
Leftover thanksgiving sandwiches are something that dreams are made of. Gravy.
Leftover steak and chimichurri are stellar sandwich options.
This was probably my most effort sandwich and it was good, but not as good as some sandwiches I've already talked about. I made the marble rye, made the pastrami and sauce and kraut and then turned it into a Rueben.
There's something special about meat and veggies and oil and vinegar. It's so simple but works so well. This is an italian sub.
Meatballs are better on sandwiches than they are on pasta. Fight me.
I made this pork belly banh mi just last week. It turned out really nice and I enjoy thinking about it when I have a few spare moments.
My last sandwich I want to feature is a good one, but it probably wouldn't be fully appreciated by everyone. Country ham is SUPER salty, but it's something I grew up having occasionally and it brings back fond memories of breakfast in the south. Also grits and red eye gravy.
That's a lot of dang sandwiches. Hopefully we can continue sandwiching through 2021!

Now I gotta start thinking about what sandwich I'm going to eat today.
