75 years ago this year is 1945, and as we hit the declassification dates for the early Cold War, we’re going to learn some new things about that era. They will probably try to keep a lot of stuff secret still, which is why more politicians should take an interest.
1945-1950 is the heyday of interest in Soviet spying in America, and conservatives should put maximum pressure on the government to declassify records that will tell us how bad it was.
Much of this stuff didn’t get aired at the time, on the reasonable if questionable grounds that we didn’t want the Soviets to know we could read what they were doing. But it’s important to tell the public now.
A single congressman who commits preemptively to ask questions when decisions get made to keep some things secret would be a good start
