I am no economics expert (but a very very keen student, given I majored in Finance & extensively studied economics).

So, i m raising perspectives from a big picture perspective:

I heard PM Modi's speech yesterday. So these perspectives are primarily springing from that + my thots on this ever since it was, IMO, bombarded thru Parliament.

Lets start:

I personally agree that, as a Nation, reforms are overdue in multiple arenas. BUT,

BUT, ARE REFORMS JUST LAWS?

DOES OUR JOB STOP WITH MERELY PASSING LAWS?

OR, IS IT OUR JOB TO ENSURE THE SYSTEM (NATION) IS IN A POSITION TO ASSIMILATE & ABSORB REFORMS?

I think A GOOD BOOMING IS A GOOD CONDUCTOR OF CHANGE. And a struggling, depressed or stagflated economy is A BAD CONDUCTOR OF CHANGE!

The basic question i am raising (& man, i could get k**led for this, trust me):

Even thou this Nation has reforms facing us starkly, CAN THE GOVT AFFORD TO & EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, BE ALLOWED TO PUSH WHAT IT CALLS REFORMS, WITHOUT HANDHOLDING THE NATION & VARIOUS

See, the night demonetisation was announced & for a while after that, citizens like me SHOUTED FROM ROOFTOPS ASKING THAT IT BE CANCELLED & THE FM & RBI GOV RESIGN. Not only did nothing happen, my main alma mater (& one of the 4 professional quals i

hold was asked to put up a circular that told us we should NOT at all criticise the demon move , please trust me).

When i search, i dont find a lot of my #Nirbhaya & #Demonetisation tweets! Dunno why! I was very very vociferous for both, all thru.

Then, when RBI the gr8 released the contingency reserve, I LITERALLY WENT OUT TO THE PUBLIC INTERNET CAFE AT 8.45 PM, ON TOP OF MONTHS OF ADVISING AGAINST IT HERE, TO LITERALLY PLEAD IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE!

Again, no use.

So, while #Covid19 certainly poured cold water over a just-a-wee-bit-of-green-shoots-semblance-of-a-recovery from the disaster called demonetisation (a horrendous systemic shock that), PM MODI IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ECONOMY. Make no mistakes.

THEREFORE, HE CANNOT BE A FRONT-END REFORMS VENDING MACHINE. Rather, we cannot allow him to be a frontend reforms vending machine.

PUT REHAB INTO WORK AND ONLY THEN, IN A PARALLEL IMPLEMENTATION, BRING ON REFORMS.

If we think we have a mandate to pass whatever we please, Sure. But, guess what, its an end-to-end responsibility.

And I am NOT saying dont do reforms. And i am NOT saying becoz its not a booming economy, dont do reforms.

No. On the contrary, times of crisis bring on, often, mandatory course corrections.
