Here is the rating thread for Bayern defenders/GK so far this season [THREAD]

These are my thoughts watching their play. Feel free to give your feedback if you disagree

Players are rated as - Bad, Okay, Good, Very Good
Likes & RTs appreciated
Manuel Neuer
Neuer has been the best player for Bayern this season. It is easy to say he is back to his absolute prime right now.
He has made the most saves in CL group stages.
Neuer has improved vastly on one on ones which used to be his weakness since coming back from injury
He looks so complete right now and will play huge role in second half

Role: First team starter
Strengths:
Weakness: Nothing much right now

Rating: GOAT
Alexander Nubel

Nubel played in 2 matches for Bayern in the first half. He did pretty well for a backup GK.
His shot stopping was good but his passing left lots to be desired especially against Atletico.
It is too early to draw any conclusions.
His passing will definitely improve as he will continue to work under Toni Tapalović (in my eyes the best GK coach in the world)

Role: Backup GK
Strengths: Shot stopping
Weakness: Long range passing
Rating: Good
Benjamin Pavard

Pavard is having a bad season right now. His performances dipped like anything
He played some good matches but the consistency he is well known for is not there this season
May be physical fatigue or mental fatigue but he is shadow of a player from last season
His crossing is way too wayward this season. Pavard is defending narrow and drifting inside leaving lots of space on flanks. He has been more reactive than proactive in defending
Hopefully this winter break will get him back on track
Role: Important Player
Strengths: Aerial Duels
Weakness: Crossing and positioning while defending
Rating: Bad
Bouna Sarr

Flick entrusted Sarr to stepup due to Pavard's poor form but Sarr had a nightmare in most of the games he played
He could not convince Flick yet and is on bench. It is tough for a new signing to come to start performing.
But Sarr is not looking like a quality backup
It is too early to say he is a bad signing because he only played few games
But if he doesnt step up, this will be our bad signing of this summer. Let's hope he picks up in second half

Role: Rotation
Strengths: Aerial Duels, Dribbling
Weakness: Crossing
Rating: Bad
Niklas Sule
Sule had a mixed season so far. After a string of poor performances, he really stepped up in the last month
Flick is using his as an auxilary RB. He is playing as an RCB but joins attack when needed
He had few defensive issues earlier in the season but passing 🔝
If he continues his current form, he should play a major role for Bayern in second half
Despite all the media focus, he did an okay job

Role: Important player
Strengths: Aerial Duels, Pace, short passing
Weakness: No significant weaknesses
Rating: Okay
Jerome Boateng

He really came a long way since Flick took over. He dropped in many top performances this season
Boateng is very fit after many years. He made many last gasp tackles and helped Bayern's defense immensely
It will really bad to let Boateng leave next summer
His strength has been his defensive quality and strong in aerial duels.
Passing is his best trait as always but his diagonal passing and chipped balls are wayward in recent weeks.

Role: Important player
Strengths: Tackling, short passing, Aerial Duels
Weakness: Pace
Rating: Good
David Alaba

Alaba's saga has been the most irritating story for Bayern fans. It is slowly eating up Alaba in recent months as well.
He is still Flick's first pick in the team. Alaba is very good as a ball playing centre back. He is also good at pressing opponents early.
Teams were able to exploit his aerial weakness with long balls. He is breaking Bayern's high line way too many times
His reluctance to go into tackles is a major negative

Role: Key player
Strengths: Pressing, Passing
Weakness: long balls, Aerial Duels, brain fades
Rating: Okay
Lucas Hernandez

Lucas is probably the best CB at Bayern right now. But he plays as a LB and has adapted well to the role
He is a no nonsense defender and goes for a tackle or clearance whenever needed
Lucas didnt make any considerable mistakes that cost Bayern dearly
He did well going forward and provided solid defense on the left side
His final ball can be improved but you cant ask much more from a CB who is playing as LB
Commits too many fouls but every team needs such players to break down transitions
Role: Important player
Strengths: Aerial prowess, Short passing
Weakness: Crossing, positioning when in possession
Rating: Good
Alphonso Davies
Davies was either rested or injured for most of the season
But he looked very good when he made the comeback against Moscow earlier this month
He is very strong going forward but still learning his trait as a defender
If he remains fit for the rest of the season, Bayern will be flying
There are no significant weaknesses. Although he is injured, the rest gave him mental and physical refreshness.

Role: Important player
Strengths: Crossing, Dribbling, Take ons
Weakness: positioning
Rating: Good
