When all is reduced to power relations, or violence it makes dialogue (an exchange of ideas in which we attempt to draw closer to reality) impossible.
Though one of us may speak of truth, the response, must always be held in suspicion, as it is motivated by a desire to transform or reinforce particular modes of speaking, rather than to enlighten the mind.
We must hold these people’s responses in suspicion because any appeal we make to principles or what may be an obvious truth would merely be an attempt to force the conversation in a certain direction...
to confine the set of acceptable statements what is practically appealing to us, rather than understanding reality, or being.
While interesting, it is little more than a conspiracy theory...one without the need for any actual conspirators.
Dialogue, in this case ceases to be a mutually beneficial exchange, and becomes instead combative...it becomes a war between power structures, and leads to suspicion between the parties. A suspicion that often leads to breakdown of communication. @roderickgraham
