THREAD – The Endless Brexit War.

The announcement of a #BrexitDeal was greeted with mixed reactions. To some, it was a relief. To others, it was a betrayal. The “deal” itself will take some time to dissect and analyse but, unfortunately, this isn’t the end of the #Brexit fight.
The #FBPE and #RejoinEU zealots have been tweeting away furiously, from MEPs to lead campaigners and supporters alike. Some of their communications range from mildly deluded to seriously deranged.
One #FBPE rejoined even talks of adopting the Sikh religion in order to be able to legally carry a knife, as it may come in handy. Asides from trivialising an entire religion, the enemy within appears to have become even more rabid than ever.
At first glance, the #BrexitDeal looks as though we’ve just propped up the EU and made it easier for their businesses to continue selling to us – that massive trade deficit that has so often been mentioned.
The #BrexitDeal appears to keep us close to the EU in many areas, something that was bound to happen as a result of the constraints laid out in the appalling surrender treaty, aka the Withdrawal Agreement, that was shaped by the 2017 remain parliament.
Quite why Boris signed the WA without checking it with the new parliament of 2019, I will never know. However, sign it he did – which came with full acceptance of the Political Declaration that shaped the subsequent negotiations.
I was always against the Withdrawal Agreement. We didn't vote to leave the treaties of the EU, only to sign another unnecessary treaty. Nowhere does A50 require a departing member state to sign a new treaty to leave. But we are where we are.
The #BrexitDeal doesn’t appear to be all bad. A full analysis is needed, and the ERG will play a critical role. Some #Brexit supporters will find the deal acceptable to varying degrees. Others will find it unacceptable. But the reality is that it WILL pass through parliament.
Personally, I don't object to a good #BrexitDeal which benefits the UK. My fear now is that the EU WILL exploit both the NI Protocol and the terms of the deal to its advantage. To most eurocrats, nothing means more than their political project. Nothing.
We’ve had to fight hard for #Brexit. Most leavers are worn out. Many are relieved, thinking that this is finally all over. However, for a country to really prosper, it has to be united. The truth is that the remain camp isn’t interested in unity. Not one bit.
The #FBPE and #RejoinEU camp will do anything to undermine the UK, and they appear to be very well funded. They WILL inflict any damage they can, at every opportunity, just so they can be proved right. Leavers, BEWARE!
For now, I urge #Brexit supporters to recharge. We’re going to need a steady flow of energy. We may have won our independence, but we haven’t won as much freedom as we may think. Co-operation and compromise isn’t a problem, but there's a lot more going on under the surface here.
Personally, I'll be going through the #BrexitDeal with a fine toothcomb. I’ve taken two weeks off to do it! Whatever the rights and wrongs of the WA, or how this post #Brexit FTA came about, we’re likely to have to live with it.
The danger is that the remainers are hell bent on dragging us back into the EU at ANY COST, and in such a way that we could never leave again. 27 EU countries united against the UK, as our own citizens continued to mercilessly divide us.
It’s clear that the remainers will continue to drag their heels and will do anything to ensure failure. Mute them, by all means, but keep an eye on them. Only an “EU passport” will satisfy them. By the time the fisheries transition is over, such a passport will probably exist.
We MUST diverge as soon, and as much, as possible. We may be somewhat constrained in doing so in some areas, but this is precisely what remainers have wanted. Despite their protestations, they’ve had quite a few wins here. They’re now biding their time. We MUST remain vigilant.
I urge leavers to at least browse the text of the #BrexitDeal. Perhaps concentrate on the areas most important to you, if not the whole document. There’s no point in objecting to it. It WILL pass. But we need to know what we've signed up to.
Every #Brexit voter/supporter needs to know what the #BrexitDeal entails, not only so that we can use it to our advantage, but so that we can be aware of how the #FBPE extremes could use it against us.
For now, chill out and enjoy a hard earned break. 2021 is set to be a year of promise and new opportunities for the UK. But it will also be a year in which we MUST remain vigilant. Winning #Brexit was the easy bit. Safeguarding our independence will be an ongoing endeavour.
