Here's a thread full of lesser-known indie games that I loved this year.
Caveats:
*"Lesser-known" means that I'm not gonna post Hades or Teardown. That doesn't mean those aren't instant classics, just you know already.
*No Modern Wolf games. Obviously every MW game is GOTY.

Umurangi Generation by @Veselekov. Explore a distressingly plausible near-future dystopia by snapping photos. Really satisfying to line up a perfect shot that fulfills lots of objectives. Droll world-building. Chill and delightful all the way through. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1223500/Umurangi_Generation/
Intergalactic Fishing by @boatanchorgames. Visit proc-gen'd lakes all over the universe, learn the fish and local conditions in each one, upgrade all your shit, design baits and lures to catch fish and solve the big mystery at the heart of it all. https://store.steampowered.com/app/949600/Intergalactic_Fishing/
Legend of Keepers by my friend @jverbroucht. Another interesting spin on the Dream Quest/StS deck-building formula, this time incorporating some Dungeon Keeper-flavoured management. https://store.steampowered.com/app/978520/Legend_of_Keepers_Career_of_a_Dungeon_Master/
Paradise Killer from @FellowTravellr and @KaizenGameWorks. A murder mystery adventure with the most hallucinogenic world-building. If you're in a rut and want a wildly different narrative then this is it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1160220/Paradise_Killer/
Raiders! Forsaken Earth by @Creative_Storm. Mount and Blade in a Fallout-inspired post-apocalypse. Crunchy turn-based combat that feels similar to Battle Bros with a more robust management layer. Assiduously updated since launch. https://store.steampowered.com/app/972010/Raiders_Forsaken_Earth/
Creeper World 4 by @knucracker. Takes the Creeper World games into 3D and does it perfectly: everything that was compelling about the 2D games is still here, plus great new ideas. Build towers to fight back a relentless flood of alien... juice? Goo? Rad. https://store.steampowered.com/app/848480/Creeper_World_4/
Per Aspera from @RawFury & @TlonIndustries. Martian terraformer/city-builder/supply-chainer; you're an AI struggling to understand yourself. A bold marriage of Factorio-lite with a narrative game, beautifully produced. Deserves much better Steam reviews. https://store.steampowered.com/app/803050/Per_Aspera/
Old World from @mohawkgames. A Civ-style 4X that does genuinely interesting new stuff; borrowing some ideas and themes from Crusader Kings. Also a soundtrack that maybe tops the Civ 4 soundtrack which is a hell of a feat in itself. https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/old-world/home
Solitaire Conspiracy from @mikeBithell. This is just a clever little solitaire game but when I say "just" what I really mean is that its production values are so embarrassingly immense that I forced @Ajwnicholson to play it over and over again. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1424980/The_Solitaire_Conspiracy/
Go play all these! After you've bought yourself and all of your friends a copy of @ModernWolfLtd's games obviously.
Happy holidays. :)
