since some of you choose to entirely ignore that it exists, here are some examples of racism against asians: a thread
the constant name calling, whether it's "ching chong" or "ling ling" that's constantly directed at any east asian. it doesn't matter if they're japanese or korean, if we even look remotely the same, you group us all together
in performing arts, there has been yellowface used in movies such as mick rooney in "breakfast at tiffany's" or horrible asian caricatures such as the character long duk dong in "sixteen candles"
we remember you making fun of our eyes for years. even if our eyes weren't small, people pulled their eye corners out and said they were being "chinese, japanese, vietnamese"
and now fucking "fox eyes" were a beauty trend. you laughed at our facial features for years and then decided to copy them. it's insulting that after years of mockery, you turned it into a trend
you've appropriated our traditional clothes too. ao dai's and qipao's are not your next streetwear style, and stop calling the designs "oriental." that doesn't take any of the offense away. https://twitter.com/karlsjacob/status/1342790469319708672
stop continuing to enforce and believe stereotypes. you're generalizing all of us by saying we're:
- good at math (or any stem subject for that matter)
- dog eaters
- harboring coronavirus
- small-eyed
- all musicians
- good at math (or any stem subject for that matter)
- dog eaters
- harboring coronavirus
- small-eyed
- all musicians
and stop ignoring the fact that east asians aren't the only ones in the asian race. west asians, south asians, and southeast asians all exist too. we're not just chinese, japanese, and korean.
check yourself. stop stealing our fashion, traditions, and facial features. we invite you to appreciate and celebrate it with us, don't appropriate it, and don't continue to discriminate against our people if you love our culture so much.
