(1/3) Great to see high streets getting funding today to adapt and prosper. Town centres need to be destinations, easily accessible by active travel.

I have already seen some local businesses claim that proposed cycle lanes, to be funded with this cash, will harm trade.
(2/3) The data we do have is clear that this isn’t true but conventional wisdom still has a strong hold in local politics; this could set our high streets back potentially decades if we don’t get things right.
(3/3) So often local authorities are not retail experts and don’t have the tools to quash these myths. Part of funding should go into getting solid sales data for monitoring and evaluation, as well as sharing best practices.
