🛑 Why I had to take off of my new course's landing page: (thread)
On Monday I secretly released the landing page of a new video course. I was working hard the weeks before to make this work.

I sent the site to some friends to get some feedback. While signing up for the newsletter, some mails went to spam. I thought that was normal, it was not.
I always heard from some people that my emails/newsletter went to their spam folder. I just thought that's just how this works and that it is not a big deal. But from 10 people trying the new site, 5 received their email in the spam folder.

That's when I got curious.
I paid for a tool to check my email "deliverability". I sent an email from my newsletter setup to like 75 test email accounts of this tool.

I did two tests like this and it turned out that ~50% of emails went to spam folders. This was when I noticed I I'm in trouble.
I did some research and noticed I had no idea how all this worked and about all the factors playing into your email deliverability. It is something you only realize when it is too late.

I had no chance to fix this quick, so I postponed my launch and took my site offline.
I was devastated. All the hard work and the long nights, it felt like it was all for nothing. Last Monday was the last day where it made sense to release something. So due to the holidays, the next possible date would be next year.

But still, I needed to find a solution first.
So here is what I know so far:

Your email reputation is defined by your domain and your IP. The domain is something that you choose. I use my email now several years now. The IP is different. This is defined by which server actually sends the mail.
Six months ago I was using Convertkit, so my mails were sent by one of their servers. Since June, I used a custom solution with Mailgun. So Mailgun was sending my emails. On my cheap plan there, I was using a shared IP. This means other users are using the same IP.
I have now switched to a dedicated IP on Mailgun to see if this can help solve my issue. I'm also still waiting for help from their support. It is just so hard to find out what went wrong and how to solve it. Besides the IP and domain, there is more.
There are DMARC, SPF, DKIM, and much more little details. At this point, I'm not talking about the email's content which of course is also important.
So this is where I'm currently at. Doing a lot of research and talking to support teams. Just trying to figure out how to solve this mess. I'll keep you updated.
